About HLS

Handshkae House

Homeowner Legal Services (“HLS”) is an organization committed to improving the quality of life in HOA communities through homeowner education, community training, and neutral evaluation programs that are specifically tailored to the needs of HOA communities. The Homeowner Legal Services concept was conceived by real estate attorney Adam Buck who saw that litigating homeowner disputes is not only expensive, but it divides the community and often drives up community insurance premiums. But without a practical way for their disputes to be resolved, many homeowners become dissatisfied and frustrated with their community. Unresolved disputes can fester, divide and tear down otherwise happy communities. Homeowner Legal Services bridges the gap between homeowners and their HOA boards leading to happier, healthier communities.

HLS also strives to inform and educate homeowners of their duties and obligations when they purchase in HOA communities. We offer a Seller’s Community Disclosure Statement for Sellers to use when listing the property. This statement summarizes the amount and frequency of the association dues and assessments. It also summarizes key provisions of the community documents to make sure the community fits with a prospective buyer’s lifestyle.

We also offer a Buyer’s Due Diligence Report. This report not only summarizes the key provisions of the community documents, it also summarizes the community financials, any community litigation and whether there are any sex offenders living in the vicinity. The objective of these reports is to better educate homeowners and minimize potential future disputes between the homeowner and the HOA board.
